Light Side of Health

21 Day Challenge: Health On A Budget

Living a healthy life and living within our means, are defintely two keys to a productive life. I have fallen short of this many times throughout my life. Life can go in waves. Sometimes, we need to reign in certain things to move forward. I thought I would make a personal challenge of mine, a public one because there is nothing like accountability! After moving across country and starting all over, my diet and spending habits have been all over the place.

So in effort to reign somethings back, I thought would blog throughout the next 21 days to help keep me accountable. One thing that has been helpful to keeping grocery costs down is  I have started growing my own indoor herbs which consist of rosemary, basil and green garlic. A simple way to cut back on costs. I do allow myself to drink coffee out one time a week and on the weekend with a friend. When it comes to diets, I have tried them all and for me only a diet based on portion control works. The beautiful thing about portion control is it allows us to stay within budget of food we purchase.

So this week’s grocery list will look like the following:

  • Coffee
  • Cream
  • Eggs
  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Sea Salt (In need more of it)
  • Chicken tenders and canned chicken
  • Italian Rice
  • Asparagus
  • Corn
  • Avocado
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Lemons and Lime
  • Butter

I will be trying to post every few days my meals and progress, so please check back! Leave a comment below .

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

  1. Love to hear more about health on a budget! Food cost are rising, especially for organic foods. What is your take on which organic foods to buy?

    1. Hi Justin, always shop for vegetables and fruits that are in season. This will help cut down on costs. I do think cleaning veggie wil help, too when organic might be a little out of the price range. The following veggies that are usually recommended to buy organic are:Strawberries
      Spinach
      Kale
      Nectarines
      Apples
      Grapes
      Peaches
      Cherries
      Pears
      Tomatoes
      Celery
      Potatoes

Veggies and fruit that usually are clean and don’t need to be purchased organic are:Avocados
      Sweet corn
      Pineapples
      Sweet peas (frozen)
      Onions
      Papayas
      Eggplants
      Asparagus
      Kiwis
      Cabbage
      Cauliflower
      Cantaloupes
      Broccoli
      Mushrooms
      Honeydew

      Hope that helps!
