Caramelized Onions

Caramelized onions are a game changer! They jazz up any burger, meat or veggie dish. They are also great for conquering the sweet tooth without the sugar and carbs.

Coconut Caramelize Amino Onions

Ingredients

  • 2-4 Sweet Onions
  • Avocado Cooking Spray
  • Bragg's Coconut Liquid Aminos
  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. For best results cut onions into long strips. *Below is a great and quick video from Kitchen Daily featuring the best technique for slicing onions for this particular recipe.

  2. Using a high heat pan or skillet, coat the bottom of the pan with avocado cooking spray & a little bit of extra-virgin olive oil to start. Turn stove on to medium-high heat. Add the onion slices and stir to coat with Bragg Coconut aminos. Spread the onions out evenly over the pan and let cook, stirring occasionally. Depending on how strong your stovetop burner is, you may need to reduce the heat to medium or medium-low to prevent the onions from burning or drying out. Add a little more avocado cooking spray, extra-virgin olive oil, or more Braggs coconut aminos as needed, and allow to simmer, moving the onions around every few minutes.

  3. Let the onions cook for 15 minutes to 1 hour (this depends on stove heating, the number of onions used, and desired texture), stirring every few minutes.

  4. Once the onions' texture is to your liking, remove them from the pan and enjoy! They should keep in the fridge for a few days if stored in an airtight container. For some extra sweetness, add a little honey.
