Easy Sweet Potato Mash

I am trying to scale back on using aluminum in the kitchen. I recently started boiling over baking my sweet potatoes in aluminum. A few benefits, to boiling over baking them:
More Vitamin A is preserved in the boiling process than in baking.
I can compost my food scraps.
It can just take 20 – 30 minutes as compared to an hour.
Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy baking sweet potatoes from time to time but for busy weeknights boiling sweet potatoes has been the way to go with a few additional perks to go along with it!

Easy Sweet Potato Mash


  • 3-6 Sweet Potatoes
  • Good Quality Butter
  • Sea Salt
  • Cracked Pepper
  • Good Quality Honey


  1. Grab your sweet potatoes.

  2. Skin the sweet potatoes into a bowl, making for easy and clean composting of scraps.

  3. Chop up sweet potatoes. The smaller you chop, the faster they will cook.

  4. Place sweet potatoes in a large pot, being sure they are covered in about an inch or two of water.

  5. Boil for about 20-40 minutes or until tender. This will vary based on how many sweet potatoes you are boiling and how small the pieces are cut up.

  6. Strain sweet potatoes and place in a large bowl.

  7. Add in your butter, sea salt, cracked pepper, and honey.

  8. Give your sweet potatoes a good mashing. Make sure everything is evenly seasoned.

  9. Add additional seasoning or honey for taste if you like.

  10. Enjoy!
